School Information for Authors Visit
2003 - 2004
When I visit your school I come dressed as Mama carrying my sweet potato pie quilt that is pictured in my book and a home made sweet potato pie wrapped in brown paper. This helps to make the reading of my story come alive.
I enjoy taking a little time to tell the students how I became an author from start to finish. Prior to my visit you might want to read my story to the students and have them write down any questions to be shared during the question and answer session if time permits.
I will give up to 3 programs in one school day. Each session takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on what you specify.
Children of all ages will enjoy listening to this humorous story, since I adjust my presentation and work with you to meet the needs and interest of your students.
All children can identify with working together, planning, baking pies and the problem-solving this story tells.
Arts and Crafts Project
I prefer groups of 25 or less, unless there is additional adult supervision provided.
Here are three suggested craft activities to choose from according to grade level.
Sweet potato pie refrigerator magnet
or ornament made from fun foam.
Sweet potato pie made out of
"Mama's Mix". (Non-toxic)
Children love this project.
Workshop activity - Make a sweet
potato pie fabric pot holder.
These craft activities compliment my story giving lessons in measuring,
following directions and working together. There will be an additional charge for supplies unless your school can provide them.
Ordering Information:
When ordering my book, please order one month in advance to assure their arrival.
They can be sent directly to me for prior signing. This will allow more time with your students.
